How to Become a Christian?

What is the Gospel?

The Gospel is the good news that although we are all sinners deserving of death, God offers the free gift of eternal life through Christ Jesus.  It's the good news that God made Christ to become sin on our behalf that we might become the righteousness of God through Him.  We are saved by Grace through faith in Christ.  Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures and we can be saved and forgiven by placing our trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

How Do I Become A Christian?

The moment that you place your trust in Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, you are saved and justified.  As you continue to grow in faith by following Jesus Christ you will grow in sanctification.  Trusting in Christ alone as your means of salvation is how you become a Christian.  Yielding to His guiding spirit and abiding in Him is how you grow as a Christian.

What is the meaning of Life/My Purpose?

We are created in the Image of God.  God made man a social creature.  God gave man work.  God had fellowship with man.  God gave man dominion over the earth.  These things have been impacted by sin, leaving us longing for a relationship with God, dissatisfied by the things of the world.  True meaning and purpose is found in a restore relationship with God, which is made possible by Faith in Jesus Christ.  When repent of our sins and place our trust in Christ, He makes us new creatures.  When we pursue God's will with our whole heart, we find satisfaction in Him.

I've Trusted Christ... Now What?
  1. Read the Bible every day.

  2. Pray Daily (Talking with God)

  3. Worship (Join a Bible Believing Church)

  4. Fellowship (Get to know other believers)

Doing these things do not save you, nor do they keep you saved.  They simply help you to grow in your relationship with Jesus Christ.

How Do I Know If I Am Saved?

It is possible to know that your are saved.  He who has the Son has life.  He who does not have the Son does not have life.  Have you believed like Romans 9:10-11 says?  Do you have a sense of peace from the Holy Spirit?  Do you see good fruit in your life?  The security of our salvation is based solely in placing faith in Jesus Christ.  The assurance of our salvation is contributed to by our changed nature and the way we live. (good trees bear good fruit)

The Romans Road to Salvation

1. The Human Problem

The first part of the Romans Road confirms the state of every human as sinful and the state of God as Holy.  After establishing that "all have sinned," the first half of Romans 6:23 explains the depth of this problem and its consequences.  However, the second half of the verse hints at the hope sinners have for salvation through Jesus.

Romans 3:10

As it is written, there is none righteous, no, not one:

Romans 3:23

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Romans 6:23

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

2. Humanity's Hope in Christ

The second part of the Romans Road further explains the hope we have in the love of God expressed through Christ.

Romans 5:8

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

3. The Sinner's Response

Once we understand our need for a savior and recognize that Jesus Christ is that savior, we can respond by moving along to the third part of the Romans Road, calling out to Jesus.  This response is possible for everyone.  Romans 10:13 expresses God's ability to save everyone.

Romans 10:9-10

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Romans 10:13

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

4. The Result of Salvation

The fourth part of the Romans Road mentions two results (peace and justification) after a sinner declares and believes in their hear that Jesus Christ is Lord.  Romans 5:1-2 explains that through faith in Jesus Christ, sinners can enjoy peace with God, no longer separated from holy God by sin.  Romans 8:1 rejoices in the result of salvation.  Before faith in Christ, all who have sinned were condemned by their sin and destined for death.  But now with faith in Christ, "there is no condemnation" and believers are gifted eternal life with God.

Romans 5:1-2

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:  By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

Romans 8:1

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

We are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, according to scripture alone, for the glory of God alone.
